Senate Leader Lauds Creation of Niger Delta Ministry
The Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, has said the creation of Niger Delta Ministry by the president was a good development. Folarin said this in Ibadan while speaking with newsmen at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan. He said that the creation of the ministry was necessary as the Niger-Delta problem was an international one.

"The problem is an international one and not just a national problem; what the president is doing is to ensure that the problem is tackled headlong," Folarin said. He said the recent condemnation of the ministry by militants of the area, was uncalled for, adding, "militants are just a segment of Niger-Delta." "Others welcome it. It will go a long way in solving the problems there," Folarin said. The Senate leader lauded the NDDC which he said, was doing a nice job, stressing that as an agency of the ministry, it would do better.

Folarin said that the demand for the creation of states was not limited to the South West, noting that people from other zones were also doing so. Folarin said that creation of states was purely a legislative matter, as according to him, it would start and end with the National Assembly. He said that the Constitutional Amendment Review Committee, would be inaugurated next week by Sen. David Mark. According to him, one of its major assignments, would be the matter of creation of states. "You will expect that I will make strong case for the creation of Ibadan State as a chief of Ibadanland," he said.
