Enugu State to Provide Free Wireless Internet
Residents of Enugu may not have to pay for Internet access as government has concluded arrangements to install free wireless Internet in the metropolis. The Enugu State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Chuka Ayogu, made the announcement today in Enugu. This followed a recent signing of MOU with Nigeria's computer firm, Zinox for the provision of wireless network access in the state capital.

Ayogu was at the graduation of 105 students of computer programming course in Enugu. He said when functional, the network would allow interested persons have access to the internet from any part of the capital. Ayogu said that the network would be extended to other parts of the state after the pilot study. The commissioner explained that the government partnered with Skull2Net technology to run the information technology programme. According to him, the programme is aimed at empowering youths and civil servants with information and communication technology. He advised the people to take advantage of the programme to empower themselves on ICT.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr Donatus Okorowo, who chaired the ceremony, noted that ICT had become the driving force of change. Earlier the Director of Skull2Net technology (STNT), Mr John Uruakpa, thanked the government for its contribution toward producing the first batch of graduates of the programme. Uruakpa implored government to provide more computers and teaching personnel to enable them to train many more students. The STNT provide training on computer appreciation and engineering, GSM engineering, web design, desktop publishing and database management.
