Diocese on the Lake Holds Its Maiden Synod The Missionary Diocese on the L a k e , A n g l i c a n Communion will begin its first general council meetings (Synod) at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary Magdalene Oguta, in Imo State from October 24- 26, 2008. It would be recalled that the Missionary Diocese on the Lake was inaugurated on June 6 by The Most Rev. Peter Jasper Akinola, Archbishop and Primate of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, with the enthronement of the Rt. Revd. Chijioke B. N. Oti as the pioneer Bishop of the Diocese. In a statement signed by Chukwudi Blessing, Diocesan Press Officer, and made available to newsmen on the threeday Synod, the Bishop on the Lake, Rt. Rev Chijioke B. N. Oti, stated that about two hundred and fifty delegates and nominees are expected at the occasion. The delegates and nominees are equally expected to arrive on Thursday, October 23 while Synod commences the following day with church service, Holy Communion and reports from parishes. The second day, being Saturday, 25 will feature the presentation of the presidential address by Bishop Chijioke B. N. Oti and launching of the Synod report, together with the presidential address, while on Sunday, October 26 the Synod will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service. Throwing more light on the Synod, Bishop Oti said that the maiden Synod of the missionary diocese, which has 'Bring Down the Glory of God' as its theme, called on the need for a fervent and pertinent Godliness and repentance among Christians in a synchretic society. The prelate, who observed that corruption still pervaded the Nigerian nation despite efforts made by past administrations, maintained that the nation still had a long way to go, hence the need for a fervent and pertinent Godliness for the glory of God to come to us.
