Zamfara to Plant One Million Trees
The government of Zamfara will plant one million trees across the 14 local government areas of the state. Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, the Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals Development, disclosed this in Gusau. He said that government decided on the measure to curtail the ``speed and approach of Sahara desert which is progressing at two kilometres per annum.''

He said that government had already awarded contract for the raising of one million tree seedlings in various nurseries in the state. He said that the seedlings would be replanted in some designated places across the local government areas of the state. Muhammad said that the government would provide incentives to any farmer who could plant and maintain more than one hundred trees.
