ABSU:
40 Undergraduates Face Indefinite Suspension over Cultism
The move to eradicate cultism in the Nigerian University system has once again received a boost with indefinite suspension of at least 40 undergraduates of the Abia state university by the authorities. The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Nkpa Agu Nkpa hinged the latest action on cult related activities on the institution's resolve to rid the system of all forms of social vices in order to attain desired academic excellence. He attributed recent cult activities in ABSU to the bad influence of proximate institutions in the state. "We recently discover some infilteration of bad elements from institutions around. Students from outside came here in the evening to contaminate our students. We had to flush out those who allowed themselves to be so contaminated "explained the vice-chancellor. Again, the vice chancellor seized the meeting with the newsmen to bring to the fore the issue of perennial erosion facing the university. He appealed to the federal government to come to the aid of the institution especially now that the impact of the erosion had become severe on the library, college of medicine and the Faculty of Humanities of the institution. Prof. Agu stated that in the past the university had spent about 500 million naira to combat the surge. He added that a recent assessment of the situation has shown that to permanently control the erosion challenge, the university would require another 290 million naira. Next >> |
